Suspension of Mechanical Harvesting on Lake Minnetonka During State Shutdown
Annually, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) mechanically harvests Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM) on Lake Minnetonka. The primary objective of this project is to reduce impediments to navigation caused by matted EWM. The project commenced the week of June 27th, with a scheduled week off this week due the July 4th holiday. This project was scheduled to resume the week of July 11th.
This project is permitted annually by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR). In late June, the LMCD was notified by the MN DNR that its permit for 2011 has been suspended due to the State shutdown (see attached 6/30/11 MN DNR letter). Because of this, the LMCD must suspend the 2011 EWM Harvesting Program until the State shutdown has been resolved and the suspension of the 2011 permit has been lifted.
