Public Safety Committee
The LMCD has a number of rules and regulations that place restrictions on the surface use of Lake Minnetonka. Examples of these rules and regulations include: 1) summer and winter speed limits, 2) the establishment of “Quiet Water Areas” (minimum wake speeds), 3) speed restrictions in the winter and summer when near the shoreline, and 4) an observer requirement when towing a person(s) on Lake Minnetonka. The committee assesses Lake Minnetonka rules and regulations, recommending changes to the Board of Directors when deemed necessary.
This committee is currently chaired by LMCD Board Member Gary Hughes. Its members are appointed annually by the LMCD Board of Directors and consist of current and past LMCD Directors and professionals from various agencies, as follows:

- Hennepin County Sheriff’s Water Patrol
- Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer
Meetings are scheduled on an as-needed basis by the Chair. All meetings are conducted at the LMCD Office on a selected day and time.
