Public Safety Meeting

December 5, 2011 – 3:30pm

The LMCD has a number of rules and regulations that place restrictions on the surface use of Lake Minnetonka.  Examples of these rules and regulations include: 1) summer and winter speed limits, 2) the establishment of “Quiet Water Areas” (minimum wake speeds), 3) speed restrictions in the winter and summer when near the shoreline, and 4) an observer requirement when towing a person(s) on Lake Minnetonka.  The committee assesses Lake Minnetonka rules and regulations, recommending changes to the Board of Directors on proposed changes.

This committee is currently chaired by LMCD Board member Steve Johnson.  Its members are appointed annually by the LMCD Board of Directors and currently consist of the following:

  • Selected LMCD Board members
  • Tony Brough- Hennepin County Environmental Services
  • Lt. Steve Hartig- Hennepin County Sheriff’s Water Patrol
  • A Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer

Meetings are scheduled on an as-needed basis, when deemed necessary by Chair Johnson.  All meetings are conducted at the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Water Patrol office in Spring Park on a selected day and time.
