The Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) 2011 EWM Harvesting Program had commenced on June 27 which was postponed due to the lack of EWM growth on Lake Minnetonka. The harvesting program was then suspended due to the State shutdown. The harvesting program restarted on July 25th after the MN DNR lifted the Aquatic Plant Management (APM) permit suspension.
Typically, the harvesting season is planned from mid June through mid August. The program operates 10-hour days; Monday through Thursday, although there may be some work on Fridays due to the loss of work days. The North Upper Lake Option will be implemented for remaining 2011 season.
Since the inception of the LMCD’s EWM Harvesting Program in 1989, the primary objective has been to address impediment to public navigation caused by EWM. The LMCD does not: 1) harvest EWM within a property owners dock use area, and 2) harvest EWM outside a property owners dock use area that is not causing an impediment to navigation, but may not be aesthetically pleasing.
Harvesting was conducted in the following bays during the week of July 25-29:
Harvesting is planned for the following bays during the week of August 1–5:
Please note that these weekly updates are the LMCD’s best estimate and that we may deviate our harvesting plans on short notice. You are encouraged to monitor these weekly updates during the 2011 season. Please feel free to contact the LMCD if you have questions or concerns.Posted on: August 2nd, 2011
