Eurasian Watermilfoil Harvesting Program Update

The Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) 2014 Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM) Harvesting Program commenced on Monday, July 7th.  The program operates on a 10 hour a day basis, Monday through Thursday.   The LMCD annually utilizes the following rotating harvesting schedule: Rotating Harvesting Schedule.  This year’s program will utilize the “Lower Lake North Option.” However, this is subject to change based on an assessment of growth and harvesting needs.

For the week of July 21st, the LMCD will be harvesting Phelps Bay, South Upper Lake, and West Upper Lake.
For the week of July 28th, the LMCD will be harvesting West Upper Lake, Cooks Bay, Priests Bay, Emerald, Seton and Black lakes. Please note that these weekly updates are the LMCD’s best estimate and that we may deviate our harvesting plans on short notice.

Harvesting priorities are based upon impediment to boat navigation on the open water, with higher priority given to areas of the lake that are matted. The main focus is to provide watercraft navigation from docks to open water. Although there are some areas of the lake with significant milfoil growth that is not aesthetically pleasing, the LMCD cannot harvest them unless they are impeding boat navigation in compliance with the permit that is obtained from the MN DNR.

You are encouraged to monitor these weekly updates during the 2014 season.  Please feel free to contact Administrative Technician Judd Harper at 952-745-0789 or jharper@lmcd.org if you have any questions.
