The LMCD held its 48th Anniversary Save the Lake Banquet on Thursday, March 19th at the Lafayette Club. A large turn out of Lake Minnetonka stakeholders heard presentations on the “State of the Lake” from Master of Ceremonies and LMCD/Save the Lake Chair Dan Baasen; “Keeping our Lake Safe” from Hennepin County Sheriff Richard Stanek; and “Keeping our Lake Healthy” from MN DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr.
Commissioner Landwehr surprised Lieutenant Art Saunders (who formerly directed the Water Patrol Unit) with the “DNR Boat and Water Safety Officer of the Year” award. Chair Baasen had the privilege in awarding the Special Deputy of the Year Award to Special Deputy John Feyder. This recognition also included a video, HCSO Special Deputies – Making a Difference, that highlighted Deputy Feyder’s contributions to this program and offered a great overview of the program itself.
The evening continued with a Live Auction and Fund-A-Need Event. The live auction raised contributions to the Save the Lake Fund (with stakeholders walking away with a wheelbarrow of beer, ride-along with the Water Patrol, paddle board w/lessons, private cruise and dinner, PaddleTap tour, guided fishing trip, and a simulated A Scow race adventure). The Fund-A-Need raised money for the LMCD’s Boater Safety Education Program – Boater Safety Education Program.
On behalf of the LMCD, Chair Baasen extends his appreciation to all that contributed to this special evening for the benefit of Save the Lake.Posted on: March 27th, 2015
