The Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) started harvesting Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM) and Curly-leaf pondweed on June 15, 2017. Harvesting typically occurs mid-June through mid-August. Harvesting does not occur during the week of the Fourth of July due to increased Lake traffic. The harvesters operate Monday through Thursday, 10 hour days.
The harvesting program was established in 1989 in order to clear public navigation areas with dense EWM. The LMCD does not harvest within a property owner’s dock use area or outside a property owner’s dock use area that is not causing an impediment to navigation, even if it is unattractive.
Harvesting was conducted in the Lafayette Bay on June 15th. For the week of June 19th, harvesting is planned for Phelps Bay and the west side of Spring Park Bay. Based on various conditions, the schedule may change. Please navigate safely when you are near a harvester machine since they are slow-moving, large machines.
Sometimes nearby launches are used to off-load the harvesters and haul the vegetation to be composted. We aim to minimize nuisances for boaters and leave the off-load sites in clean condition. We appreciate your consideration throughout the season.
Updates will be provided as the harvesting season progresses. Please contact the LMCD if you have any questions or concerns. Enjoy the Lake this summer!Posted on: June 15th, 2017
