Ice Cracking and Open Water Dangers

The dangers of being on the lake this time of year are real. The video shows the ice cracking under the Water Patrol airboat in Cook’s Bay. The weight of the airboat is much more displaced than a vehicle. A vehicle would have broken through the ice and put the operator in danger, along with the rescuers. In addition, the vehicle operator may have to pay the costs of retrieving the vehicle and fines for polluting the waters. Nearly all the channels/narrows are partially open and many of the bays have areas of open water and warm weather is coming. Please stay off the ice!
