Beware of Thin Ice!

Ice Thawing on Lake Minnetonka

With spring weather, the ice on Lake Minnetonka is thinning especially near shore, in channels, pressure ridges, and some unanticipated areas. After March 7, 2021, on-lake fences and signs are not required where de-icing units (bubblers) are used to keep the water open around docks in order to prevent damage from ice. (New requirement allows de-icing without license three days after MN DNR deadline to remove ice fishing houses.)

Take extra care to determine ice conditions or stay off the ice. Be sure to watch children and pets. In case of emergencies, call 911 to have the experts conduct any ice rescues. Have a safe Spring!
