The Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD), through its Save the Lake Fund, partners with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol, MN DNR, and Mound Fire Department for a classroom hands-on Boater Safety Education Program. Adults and youths (ages 12 to 17 years old) work directly with presenters in obtaining their Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR) Watercraft Operator’s Permit. A parent/guardian is encouraged to attend with a youth to enhance the value of training.
The class is typically held in early or mid-June at the Westonka Public Schools’ Education Service Center (Community Room), 5901 Sunnyfield Rd E, Minnetrista. A registration form will be posted on this page and the LMCD homepage when the next class date has been set. Questions can be directed to the LMCD at 952-745-0789 or email@example.com.
Due to Governor Walz’ executive orders and the recommendations of health officials regarding COVID-19, the Boater Safety Class will not be offered this summer. However, the LMCD will continue to promote safe boating through online means. Watch for more public education materials in the coming months.
