Safety for Non-Motorized Watercraft

Whether operating in low light conditions or areas with powerboats, operators of non-motorized watercraft should take extra precautions to make themselves BE SEEN by other lake users to prevent accidents. If you are kayaking, canoeing, or paddleboarding, make sure you’re visible by:

  • Wearing vibrant clothing
  • Flying a flag
  • Installing and using a light
  • Paying attention to lake conditions such as wakes, boat traffic, and weather

Powerboaters and larger boat operators should be aware of their surroundings and take measures to SEE smaller boats and non-motorized watercraft on the lake. Avoid injuring other lake users by being courteous, reducing wakes, and increasing distance.
